English Antique Birthing Stool from the 1800's
Birthing stool from England, hand carved from solid elm with rounded seat-back and saddle handles. Carved in the 1800's, this rustic piece has signs of heavy use due to its 100+ years of age, but it's rustic feel adds organic contrast to modern spaces. A small stool with a big effect, it can round out a sofa/sitting area or be used as a decorative hallway piece. True to their title, hundreds of years ago these low to the ground stools were used by women to assist in giving birth, and they have since been repurposed as antique decorative pieces.
