Papillona Floor Lamp designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Flos
Papillona Floor Lamp designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Flos in the 1970’s. Made of cast aluminium with a prismatic glass shade, which illuminates light upwards. Lamp has a patina consistent with age and use and is in good vintage condition with scratching and scuffs to the base. The molded Flos makers mark is engraved into the lamp base and shade. The lamp has been newly rewired with an adjustable dimmer.
Afra and Tobia Scarpa were both award winning architects and designers, regarded as stars of postmodern Italian design. A husband and wife duo, their pieces today can be found in the MoMA and the Louvre. This lamp was produced in a few colours over the years, but Flos halted production of it in 2010, making the cast aluminum version here rarer and harder to find in the US.
